HGV parking critical

5 Nov 2022

Ministers are being urged to work with the road transport industry to provide long term solutions to provide commercial drivers with safe and secure parking, a critical issue for the industry.

A DfT audit of lorry parking close to strategic roads found spaces, identified as 83% utilised across England, to be close to critical.

Night audits undertaken at both on-site and off- site locations found figures rose to 95% in the East of England, 94% in South East and East Midlands at 92%.

A study undertaken in 2022 aims to assist the DfT and other public bodies to understand and inform on the user experience, providing evidence for HGV parking  and driver welfare development.  RHA is currently promoting a rapidly growing petition to government to improve driver facilities, which can be signed at the website.
