The Department for Transport (DfT) has produced a video to help developers and operators of roadside heavy goods vehicle (HGV) parking and driver welfare facilities to submit high quality planning applications.
As part of the Government’s 33 actions to reduce driver shortage the DfT have produced a video (https://youtu.be/lczfAItXwYM) setting the planning process for developers and operators of HGV parking and driver facilities to assist in the submission of high quality planning applications. DfT point out that HGV drivers deserve a safe place to park; on level ground; in well-marked bays; with good lighting; and with appropriate security measures in place. They also deserve high quality facilities including: a warm welcome; clean toilet and washing facilities; something good to eat; and reliable Wi-Fi.
The DfT warns: “Getting planning permission may not be the end of the story. Depending on the nature of your development, the location of your site or it’s wider impact, there may be a range of licences or other consents you will need to secure to implement your planning permission. This can include environmental licences, building control and highways licences.”
