The CPT advises that due to the constraints placed on DVLA by Welsh Government rules over the number of employees that can be allowed to work on site, and also as a result of recent industrial action there is a backlog in the processing of vocational licence renewals
After extensive discussions between CPT Operations Director Keith McNally and DVLA, they are now able to reinstate the Notify service
Drivers will receive confirmation by email, SMS or post that their application has been received
This will allow drivers to make use of the Section 88 dispensation while their application is being processed
To utilise the dispensation under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 the driver must meet ALL of the following criteria
• The renewal form and if necessary D4 medical report was received by DVLA within the previous 12 months
• The driver would not be refused a driving licence for medical reasons
• The expired category covered the vehicle being driven
• Any conditions that were attached to the expired licence still apply
• The previous licence was not revoked or refused for medical reasons
• The driver is not currently disqualified from driving by a court
• The driver was not disqualified as a High Risk Offender on or after 1 June 2013
• The licence has not been suspended or revoked by a Traffic Commissioner
It should be remembered that it is the driver’s responsibility to make sure they meet the Section 88 criteria at all times while driving prior to receiving their licence
The notify service went live from yesterday for applications received from 25 May 2021 and subsequently DVLA sent 823 emails and 413 SMS. Letters for those drivers who did not supply alternate contact details will start being issued from Friday morning
In order to ensure instant notification drivers should include their email address and/or mobile number in the optional fields on their application
